PSA: (9/20/2024)
As of today, September 20th, the shelter is unable to accept any additional animals until further notice. This month alone the shelter has taken in 109 animals. The shelter team has been diligently working to care for these animals, find foster homes and adopters, but there is absolutely no more physical space to intake.
In addition, the shelter team has been fighting two highly contagious diseases. The cat population is battling feline panleukopenia, that was brought into the building by unvaccinated cats and kittens. The dog population is battling parvovirus that was introduced by a litter of unvaccinated puppies. The shelter team vaccinates animals on intake to help reduce the risk of catching a disease, but the vaccines only offer limited protection from spreading illnesses as it does not stop the shedding of the virus to other animals.

These diseases, while highly contagious, are easily prevented by vaccines. If you or anyone you know needs help with vaccines, the shelter does provide low-cost options. The shelter offers rabies vaccinations by appointment, and all other vaccines are available during open hours. Vaccines can also be given at any local veterinary clinic.
The shelter team, veterinarians and volunteers have been extremely hard to care for the many animals. We do recognize that by not accepting animals that the community has limited options, but this decision is for the greater good. We are hoping to have the situation remedied as soon as possible. Animal Control Officers will still be responding to emergency cases.
The good news is, the adoption floor cats and dogs have NOT BEEN AFFECTED and are still available for adoption! The shelter team will discuss how to safely integrate a new pet into their home.
